2003
Rating:
PG-13
Danny Deckchair is based on the true story of Danny (Rhys Ifans), an Australian trucker who ties a plethora of helium balloons to an lawn chair and floats away into the sky. He does this while in a slump after a long and dreadful argument with his girlfriend. After a violent storm throws him off course, he finds himself in a small town in the Australian Outback. Dissatisfied with his previous life, he is given a chance to start his life anew, as nobody in this town has ever seen or heard of him before. Simultaneously, the media has set their gaze on the odd story of his disappearance and he is given much coverage back in his home town. It isn't long before his true identity is discovered and people are dispatched to convince him to come home. Is Danny ready to return to his previous life, or has he found something to hold onto in this new town?

Thanks to amiable lead performances from Miranda Otto and Rhys Ifans, this not very original Aussie comedy about a man making a fresh start in life is a pleasant enough time-waster.
