Dark looks at the disjointed and increasingly fragmented life of Dark Freeman (Jason H. Bonner), a student attending the University of Chicago and part-time bike courier. Dark grew up surrounded by violence in his South Side neighborhood which borders the elite, prestigious university campus. He is on a scholarship at the university and is struggling to adjust and succeed in the academic setting. During the day he is a student, and at night, Dark returns to his old life and neighborhood where he no longer feels connected. With the support of his family, neighborhood acquaintances, and friends, Dark strives to incorporate aspects of his two very different worlds as he decides what to do next in his life. Dark is the debut film of director Darryl Bullock and was featured at the 41st New York Film Festival, 2003 Toronto International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Urbanworld Film Festival, and American Black Film Festival.moreless
