Curse of the Werewolf is the 1961 Hammer Horror Films classic, based on the novel by Guy Endore, and brought to the screen by talented Hammer regular, director Terence Fisher (Horror of Dracula, The Mummy, The Curse of Frankenstein). A beggar walks into town during a royal birthday party. What he thinks will be good luck turns pear shaped as the Marquis humiliates the beggar in front of his audience and has his tossed in the castle's dungeon. Years pass as the beggar turns into an inhuman being that lusts after the jailer's daughter. One day when opportunity strikes, he attacks and rapes the young lady, dying afterwards. If that doesn't seem bad enough, the old Marquis tries to do the same but is killed in self defense. On the run she flees but takes up residence with a doctor in a faraway village. On Christmas Day she gives birth to a boy named Leon and expires. Leon grows up under a bad sign. What horror shall occur under the light of the moon? Oliver Reed (Gladiator) plays the mature, tragic Leon.moreless
