Dark Horse is a 1992 drama directed by David Hemmings. The film revolves around the story of a young girl, Allison Mills (Ari Meyers), whose mother recently passed away. Allison deals with a great deal of emotional problems following her mother's death. She eventually begins to socialize with an unsavory crowd, which results in trouble with the authorities. Allison is sentenced to community service at a horse stable following an incident in which she and her friends are caught committing a minor crime. She initially resents her tasks at the horse stable, but soon develops a strong emotional connection to the horses, particularly a steed named Jet. Allison's connection with Jet grows when they are involved in an accident that leaves both of them with serious injuries, in fact, Jet serves as an inspiration to her. Janet McClean adapted the screenplay from the novel written by Tab Hunter. Hunter's inspiration in writing the novel comes from the real-life story of a horse used in filming "The Black Stallion".moreless
