Dark Wind is a 1991 mystery drama directed by Errol Morris. The characters in the movie are based on a series of novels by Tony Hillerman. In the film, Jim Chee (Lou Diamond Phillips), is a Navajo Indian police officer. A long time ago, Chee gave up on his dream of becoming a doctor for a career in police enforcement. He currently oversees the Arizona reservation territories of the Hopi and Navajo Indians. Although he has to walk a fine line between the Indians and the Anglos, his job usually runs very smoothly. However, when a Navajo Indian is found brutally murdered on Hopi Land, Chee's life gets turned upside down. He must work closely with F.B.I. agents to solve the murder and deal with intertribal politics at the same time. When his murder investigation uncovers disturbing signs of witchcraft, revenge and drugs, Chee must work quickly and diligently to avoid a war erupting between the Navajos and the Hopis.
