Dark Woods is a 2009 psychological thriller starring John Muscarneo, James Russo, Tracy Coogan, and Mary Kate Wiles. The film was written and directed by Michael Escobedo. Henry Branch (John Muscarneo) is an attentive man who only wants the best for his wife Susan (Tracy Coogan) who is dying of a terminal illness. Henry believes their days together are numbered, so he decides to whisk her away to a cabin in the woods where they can relax and enjoy each other's company. Their vacation in the woods is interrupted when a teenage girl named Alicia (Mary Kate Wiles) invades their space and seeks refuge from a rapist. Henry, being the good man that he is, allows Alicia to stay in the cabin while they hunt down her predator. Meanwhile, Susan is noticeably getting worse - it seems as though she has slipped into a lurid world of dementia. This inadvertently drives Henry away, and he soon finds himself oddly attracted to Alicia, the 14-year-old girl he rescued from sexual assault. The film has a slow pace which allows you to gradually build attachments to each character. Dark Woods is a safe way to go whenever you're in the mood for a psychological thriller.moreless
