Ivan Reitman
Released:
1993
Rating:
PG-13

Dave is the popular 1993 romantic comedy that showcases a particularly unique case of swapped identities, from comedy hit maker Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Twins, Stripes, Meatballs, Evolution) and writer Gary Ross (Big, Pleasantville). Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline) is a part-time actor and full time head of an employment agency. Kline also plays President William Harrison Mitchell, and it is his resemblance that brings him to the attention of the head of the White House staff Bob Alexander (Frank Langella) and the Communication Director Alan Reed (Kevin Dunn). They need Dave to replace the President for a few minutes after a speech. He just has to leave a hotel in place of Mitchell, and go to a limousine, and he'll be deposited back at his own address. The President can then go to another secret appointment (for a tryst). Dave does what he is supposed to, but the President does not. Mitchell has a stroke. So Alexander and Reed face contacting Vice President Nance (Ben Kingsley) to take over the administration. But Alexander hates Nance. Alexander realizes that as long as Dave continues playing the President, the administration can continue until health issues allow him to quit.
