David & Layla is a romantic drama of two star crossed lovers separated by their cultures and religions. TV host David Fine (David Moscow) has fallen for the mysterious dancer Layla (Shiva Rose), but the Kurdish refugee barely gives him a glance from behind her veil. Layla has been threatened with deportation, though she's been told marriage to an American citizen would allow her to stay in New York. She lives with her relatives who took her in after her family was killed by Saddam Hussein. David is trapped in a relationship with fianc'' Abby (Callie Thorne), though he doesn't care for her snobbish ways. When he spots the alluring Layla, her initial lack of interest isn't enough to make him give up. Along with the romantic entanglements of David, and Layla's mourning of her boyfriend, who was also killed by Hussein, the two must confront their diverse cultural backgrounds. She's a Muslim and he's an agnostic Jew. Their families challenge their relationship and the two must choose to follow their hearts or to bow to the wishes of their families.
