Dead Evidence, released in 2001, tells the story of a serial killer, Dean Riley (C. Thomas Howell) thought to be behind bars. Riley's wife Trina (Kim Michalis) has maintained her husband's innocence and is set to appeal his case. That is until a female hitchhiker is murdered in a way that fits his M.O., and the police have no choice but to reopen the case. When detective Jodie Keane (Angela Dotchin) is assigned to the case she enlists the help of ex-cop turned bouncer, John Lawless (Kevin Smith.) While reluctant to help at first, Lawless recognizes a name working on the case and begins to think that Riley may have been framed through tampering of evidence in the police department. The two team up to find out the truth, even though Jodie doesn't yet realize that she is actually the bait! Directed by Charlie Haskell and written by Gavin Strawhan, this engaging film was filmed completely in the Auckland region of New Zealand and features Auckland natives in leading roles.moreless
