Dead Ringers is a dark 1988 psychological drama with Oscar winner Jeremy Irons as twin brothers who share everything, including a spiral into madness. Identical twins Elliott and Beverly Mantle (Jeremy Irons in both roles) have a successful gynecology practice in Toronto. They share their work, apartment and even their love lives by swapping identities as the circumstances suit them. Although Elliott has the more dominant personality, Beverly enjoys the benefits of his brother's ability to seduce women and then let Beverly enjoy them while pretending to be Elliott. Then, Claire Niveau (Genevi''ve Bujold) enters their lives. This troubled, beautiful actress first requires medical help for an unusual problem, but Beverly falls in love with her. He cannot bear to share this particular woman, which throws the two brothers into an antagonistic relationship for the first time in their lives. Elliott blames Claire for his loss of control over his brother, while Beverly begins to rely on drugs to maintain the illusion of normality, and the situation begins to spiral out of control. David Cronenberg ("A History of Violence") directs this creepy thriller.moreless
