Dear Wendy is a 2005 comedy crime drama from the powerhouse filmmaking due of writer Lars von Trier (Dancer in the Dark, Dogville) and director Thomas Vinterberg (The Biggest Heroes). Dick (Jamie Bell, Billy Elliot, King Kong) is a loser, stuck in a loser town, with loser friends. His life instantly, in his mind, becomes much more interesting, when the toy gun he buys for a relative is confirmed to be the real thing. Intrigued by this, and his new-found friend Stevie (Mark Webber), he then becomes obsessed with guns - by firing them, but also with their history, assembly, nuances and so on. They recruit a couple more kids in town, and soon enough, they've got a gun club going. According to the rules, the club salutes the history of guns by dressing in Wild West finery and making a rule that the guns can only be shot on the range. But when the first gun, Dick's first gun, is seized by policeman (Bill Pullman), the group realizes that some of the rules of the group have to be broken.moreless

Well made but unlikable and dramatically absurd picture.

The story is laughably incoherent, which would be less bothersome if the movie were not also so unremittingly pretentious.
