Death Of Richie is a 1977 made-for-TV movie detailing the downward spiral of a teenager addicted to drugs. Richie Werner (Robby Benson) is a confused and insecure 17-year-old who, from the second scene, is already getting high with his pals as his best friend Brick (Charles Fleischer) drives them down a busy boulevard laughing and swerving. Though a police officer pulls over the car full of teens, Brick charms his way out of any trouble. However, for Richie, the problems begin at home. His father, George (Ben Gazzara), is a strict and hard-working man who wants to give his son some direction in life, but he fails to connect with the troubled teen. As the father-son relationship becomes more confrontational, Richie's mother, Carol (Eileen Brennan), tries to intervene but fails to get the family into counseling. This tragic story is based on the events chronicled in the book "Richie" by journalist Thomas Thompson.
