Decision Before Dawn tells the story of German prisoners of war being persuaded by U.S. military intelligence to betray their former peers and help ensure Germany's defeat as World War II comes to an end. It's 1944, the German's are holding on by a thread, but the U.S. lacks a few crucial pieces of information to claim defeat. Tiger (Hans Christian Blech) and Happy (Oskar Werner) are two German P.O.W.s recruited by Colonel Devlin (Gary Merrill) to flip sides and spy on their former comrades. When Delvin gets news that a German General is willing to negotiate the surrender of his forces he sends Lieutenant Rennick (Richard Basehart) with Tiger, who he distrusts, to gather intel and begin talks. In the mean time, Happy sets out on a mission to find the 11th Panzer Corps., who could ruin negotiations. Based on a true story and filmed on location in post-war Germany, this film answers the question "Why does a spy risk his life? For what possible reason? If the spy wins, he's ignored, if he loses, he's shot."moreless
