Deep Red, or The Hatchet Murders, is a 1975 Italian horror film directed by Dario Argento and starring David Hemmings, Daria Nicolodi, Gabriele Lavia and Macha Meril. The film tells the story of Marcus Daly (Hemmings), a classical pianist who witnesses the murder of a psychic while he is talking to his drunken friend Carlo (Lavia). Marcus then teams up with Gianna (Nicolodi), a local reporter who has experience handling murders. When Marcus realizes that the killer is also after him, he gets in contact with Giordani (Glauco Mauri), a professor of the paranormal. Unfortunately Giordani quickly becomes on of the killer's victims, and Marcus must then work on his own. Marcus then finds himself led to an abandoned house where he discovers clues to the killer's identity. Before he can call the cops, however, he is knocked out awakens only when the house is burning around him.
