Rating:

Delicatessen is a dark comedy from French directors Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro. The film stars Dominique Pinon as Louison and Marie-Laure Dougnac as his love interest Julie, and takes place in a run-down apartment during an undisclosed time period. Food is scarce. Grain is the new currency, and animals are dangerously close to being completely wiped out. At the bottom of the apartment building sits a butcher's shop, run by Clapet the landlord (Jean-Claude Dreyfus). Clapet seems innocent enough at first, but his true motives are more sinister than any of his tenants could imagine. Delicatessen was nominated for numerous European awards upon its release. It cleaned up in the César Awards, winning best editing, best film work, best production design, and best writing. Director Jeunet would go on to direct Amélie, A Very Long Engagement, and Micmacs, each featuring Delicatessen star Dominique Pinon. Delicatessen was released in 1991 in France, 1992 in the United State, and was distributed by Miramax Films.moreless
