Delirious is a 1991 comic fantasy in which a soap opera writer finds himself inside his own creation. Jack Gable (John Candy) works on the daily drama "All My Dreams" with the spoiled Laura (Emma Samms) playing the lead character, Rachel. Jack has a crush on the beautiful actress, but the other show writers want to replace her on the show with Louise (Mariel Hemingway). As part of a ploy, Laura misleads Jack into thinking he has finally landed a romantic weekend with her. Instead, he has a car crash that leaves him in the show's fictional Ashford Falls. Jack soon discovers that his typewriter can control everything and everyone in the sleepy suburb. He transforms into a wealthy Wall Street type that can make his every dream come true. Director Tom Mankiewicz makes the most of the comic complications between the real and fictional worlds, while having fun with the soap opera traditions and exaggerations.
