Deliverance is the acclaimed, Oscar nominated 1972 Warner Brothers adaptation of James Dickey's bestselling male bonding session gone wrong centric literary tome. In both, four disparate friends band together to go traverse a mighty Georgian river before the area is to be dammed and what starts as a, somewhat, idyllic canoe trip ' most of the river rafters are old friends but the inclusion of the portly, 'city boy' accountant Bobby (Ned Beatty, Network, Superman The Movie, White Lightning, Silver Streak) bristles trip leader Lewis (Burt Reynolds, Boogie Nights, White Lightning, Striptease, Cop and A Half, ), the in-touch-with-Nature He Man of the group. Best friend Ed (Jon Voight, Midnight Cowboy, Mission Impossible, Anaconda, Heat, U-Turn, Enemy of the State, Catch 22) plays mediator, fostering good will among the men. The group is rounded out by banjo-playing Ed (Ronny Cox) who has one of the film's most iconic scenes ' engaging in a musical duel with a local mentally challenged child to the famous 'Dueling Banjos.' Things turn terrifying when the friends run afoul of several backwoods degenerates they must best if they are to escape rape, torture and death at their hands.moreless
