Deranged is the cult 1974 horror hit, based loosely on the case of Ed Gein - 'The Mad Butcher of Plainfield' - and brought to disturbing life by director Alan Ormsby, featuring makeup effects by fledgling wizard Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead). When Ezra Cobb (Roberts Blossom, Home Alone) loses his mother, he goes the Norman Bates route and right into the heart of insanity without brakes. Unearthing her corpse, then placing it in her bedroom at home, Ezra talks to her as though she were still alive. Placing a bell in one hand and the bible in the other, it's as if mommy was never away. Soon, he's taking other dead bodies home to keep his mother company, using certain bones for instruments around the house. Ezra then decides to attack younger women in the local bar and corner store; the only problem is that they're still breathing, but not for long. Adding immensely to the twisted horror of such a set up is the childlike Ezra, wearing the flayed skin of his lady victims as though it were his mundane casual everyday kit.moreless
