Destination Moon is the George Pal directed science fiction saga about three astronauts, Jim Barnes (John Archer), Joe Sweeney (Dick Wesson) and Dr. Charles Cargraves (Warner Anderson), who blast off from the New Mexico desert in route to the moon. Co-scripted by science fiction writer, Robert Heinlein (The Puppet Masters), this is one of the first movies that tackled the realistic prospect of space travel. Once the craft takes off for outer space, the trip does not go as smooth as predicted. The ship finally lands on the moon and the crew takes a walk on the surface. During moon exploration, the astronauts get some bad news from home: too much fuel was used for landing and load has to be lightened considerably or they won't make it home. After tossing out every item they can think of, the load is still 110 pounds over the limit. Dr. Cargraves must come up with a McGyver-style solution or someone will have to stay behind.moreless
