Devdas' is a 2002 romantic drama Hindi Bollywood film from director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It is an adaptation of the famous Indian novel 'Devdas' from the 1920s that was written by Sratchandra Chattopadhyay. The film follows the character of Devdas, the spoiled son of the extremely wealthy Zamindar Narayan Mukherjee. He grew up extremely privileged yet developed a close bond to his female playmate Paro, who was from a much lower caste. They grow up together but Devdas doesn't realize his love for her until it's too late. Paro ends up getting married to the older, wealthier, and chaste Zamindar Bhuvan and is therefore lost to Devdas. Externally Paro performs her duties seemingly sincerely, but inside can't ever forget Devdas. Meanwhile to ease the pain of his broken heart Devdas turns to drinking, and then to the stunning courtesan Chandramukhi, who truly loves him. However Devda's heart still belongs to Paro.
