Diamond Head is a 1963 film starring Charlton Heston and is based on a novel by Peter Gilman. Filmed in Hawaii, the movie mixes the beauty of the island with an underlying tension within a family. Richard Howland (Charlton Heston) is a rich Hawaiian pineapple grower, a U.S. Senatorial candidate and a bigot who tries to control everything and everyone. When his headstrong sister, Sloan (Yvette Mimieux), plans to marry a native Hawaiian, Howland objects and proves he is a hypocrite. Howland himself is having a love affair with Mai Chen (France Nuyen), an Asian woman. When Mai Chen gives birth to Howland's baby, she dies during childbirth. Howland refuses to accept the child and Sloan cares for the baby. Eventually Howland must make a personal choice - either continue living as a close-minded man or accept his newborn son into his family and learn that money cannot buy happiness and love.
