Diamonds is a heartwarming comedic tale about a former boxer who arranges a cross country trip with his son and grandson. Once a champion welterweight fighter, life has begun to unravel for Harry Agensky (Kirk Douglas) in his old age. Reeling from the death of his wife and still learning to cope from the effects a devastating stroke, the Polish Prince, as he was called in his better days, is broke and faced with the inevitability of living out his days in a low rent retirement home; Harry has his eyes on a ranch in Northern Canada, but the cost puts it out of reach. Putting further distance between their already strained relationship, his son Lance (Dan Aykroyd), one way or another, feels it's time for his old man to hang 'em up, but the once great boxer has a last ditch plan to get the cash for the up scale digs. It seems that during his playing days in Reno, Harry threw a fight, and has been owed a lot of diamonds by a notorious mobster, but simply can't remember where they are. Seeing his own relationship with his son Michael (Corbin Allred) showing signs of the same deterioration that his has with his father, Lance agrees to join Harry on a cross county trip to find the hidden treasure. In a journey filled with more adventure than the three generations of men had anticipated, they set out looking for diamonds, but what they find is pure gold. John Mallory Asher directs this fun filled ride along, featuring Douglas in his first performance after his real life stroke in 1996.moreless
