Movie Summary

Director:
Lee Tamahori
Released:
2002
Rating:
PG-13

James Bond has to try to recover his 00 status after having it stripped of him following a lengthy period of imprisonment by the North Koreans. The Americans, as well as MI6 believe that he leaked privileged information during his 14 month imprisonment, but Bond knows that he never leaked anything - which means that there is a traitor within MI6. But what can he do, when is without his back up and being shipped off to be detained on a remote island? Since he is James Bond, the answer is a lot. After intentionally stopping his own heart through meditation, Bond escapes and sets out to set things straight. Luckily for him, he soon acquires the assistance of the sexy NSA agent Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson and is back on track with the glamorous life of a top spy.

Metacritic Score

  • 70

The New York Times Dana Stevens

Perhaps the most satisfying Bond movie since "The Spy Who Loved Me."

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Manohla Dargis

Die Another Day is only intermittently entertaining but it's hard not to be a sucker for its charms, or perhaps it's just impossible not to feel nostalgia for movies you grew up with.

  • 50

    Variety Todd McCarthy

Sports some tasty scenes, mostly in the first half, but also pushes 007 into CGI-driven, quasi-sci-fi territory that feels like a betrayal of what the franchise has always been about.
