Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart follows the life of a widow, Mrs. Tam (Kim Chew). A Chinese immigrant living in San Francisco, she finds herself depressed over the course her life has taken and wishes to make a pilgrimage to China to immerse herself in the culture and heritage of her people. While there, a soothsayer tells Mrs. Tam that her days on Earth are numbered. She strives to steer her daughter, Geraldine Tam (Laureen Chew), in the right direction. Although Geraldine is romantically involved with a man, she does not foresee marriage in the near future. Marriage and grandchildren are something Mrs. Tam wants very much at this stage in life. The film analyzes the struggles of Mrs. Tam's traditional mindset versus the more modern and progressive views of her daughter. Geraldine cares for her mother dearly and wishes to offer her love and support, especially in her old age, but finds herself overwhelmed with her mother's expectations.moreless
