Distant is a Turkish drama released in 2002. The film is centered around Yusuf (Mehmet Emim Toprak), a factory worker from a small village. After his factory closes down and he loses his job, he realizes that he must quickly find a job to support his sick mother. Yusuf decides to go to Istanbul to see his cousin Mahmut (Muzaffer Ozdemir) and find a job. The two cousins do not get along because of their different personalities. Mahmut is a wealthy and independent photographer, accustomed to city life. Yusuf is an unsophisticated, uneducated country worker. Eventually, Yusuf finds a job, but the relationship between the cousins remains the same. Mahmut brings Yusuf to the Turkish countryside to take photographs, hoping the beauty of nature will strengthen their bond and close the emotional distance between them. Will Mahmut and Yusuf spend their time together in strife, or will they will they find a way to live in harmony?
