Doctor Detroit follows the story of timid comparative literature professor Clifford Skridlow (Dan Aykroyd) as he is yanked from his comfort zone and pulled into a profession that will change him forever. Having stumbled upon four very attractive women in a restaurant, Skridlow finds himself mixed up with their pimp, Smooth Walker (Howard Hessman). Walker, being the quick-thinking, street-smart man that he is, sees Skridlow as a potential out from a high pressure situation with a very angry mob boss known as Momma (Kate Murtagh). Walker owes Momma a large amount of money, and she's getting very tired of waiting. By tricking Skridlow into taking on the identity of "Doctor Detroit," he places Skridlow into a situation that will test the boundaries of his persona, forcing him into a battle of good versus Momma for the sake of his four new friends. Fran Drescher and James Brown co-star in this 1983 Pressman and Weiss film.moreless
