Dog City: The Movie features Jim Henson's puppet creations in a parody of the gangster movies and film noir of the 1930s. Muppet Rowlf the Dog (Jim Henson) is the guide through the seedy underbelly of Dog City. The hero Ace Yu (voiced by Kevin Clash) inherits "The Doghouse," a saloon, from his late Uncle Harry. But Ace refuses to pay protection money for his business to local crime king pin Bugsy (voiced by Jim Henson). The Dogfather of crime retaliates with senseless violence. As Ace fights to keep his business open, he meets a beautiful collie named Colleen (voiced by Fran Brill) and the two join forces to take on Bugsy's bullies. The movie includes gun shots, car chases, and hitting dogs with rolled-up newspapers. The movie was first aired as a special broadcast of The Jim Henson Hour in 1989, for which Henson received an Emmy Award for directing. It spawned an animated Dog City series that aired from 1992 to 1995.moreless
