Dogfight is a 1991 drama set in San Francisco the night before the assassination of John F Kennedy. The film follows four Marines who are set to ship out and fight in Vietnam the following day. To celebrate their final night in the U.S., they decide to compete in a dogfight. Each man agrees to puts fifty dollars in the pot. Whoever finds the ugliest date wins $250. As the three other marines scour San Francisco for ugly women, Eddie Birdlace (River Phoenix), finds himself in a cafe where he meets Rose (Lili Taylor). While Rose is somewhat plain, she is definitely not ugly. Nevertheless, Eddie decides to bring her to the party as his contest entry. As Eddie and Rose spend time together, however, Eddie begins to have a certain appreciation for her charm and her desire to become a folk singer. As the time to go to the party draws near, he begins to have second thoughts. When they run into one of the other marines, Berzin (Richard Panebianco ), with his date, Eddie finds it impossible to back out. When Eddie and Rose come to the party, it's not long before Rose discovers the truth. With his impending departure, Eddie must find a way to make it up to her and see if they have the possibility of a future life together.moreless
