Released:
1999
Rating:
R

Written and directed by Kevin Smith, Dogma is a religious comedy about two fallen angels who try to find a way back to Heaven. Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon) are banished to Wisconsin by God for failing to fulfill their duties to him. Desperate to find a way back to Heaven, the two angels believe they have found a loophole when they learn that a church in New Jersey is offering indulgences. What they don't realize is that re-entering Heaven will destroy all of existence. Another angel, Metatron (Alan Rickman) appears before a woman named Bethany Sloane (Linda Fiorentino) and charges her with finding a way to stop Bartleby and Loki. She is assisted in her mission by Jay (Jason Mewes), Silent Bob (Kevin Smith), Rufus (Chris Rock) and Serendipity (Salma Hayek). At the same time, a demon named Azrael (Jason Lee) fights to stop Bartleby and Loki, too. Will the two fallen angels be able to succeed against the twin powers of Heaven and Hell?
