Dogville is the American drama written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Lars von Trier. Grace Mulligan (Nicole Kidman) is a woman on the lam from mobsters who ends up in a town named Dogville. She is provided with a place to stay in exchange for labor. While at first the townspeople are hesitant to allow Grace to stay, she wins them over with her charm and her willingness to do the tasks that few others want to do. When the police arrive hunting for Grace, the townspeople are torn as to whether or not to allow her to stay. Grace continues to work hard and eventually they stop being concerned. When the police return with a wanted poster claiming that Grace was involved with a bank robbery, the townspeople again allow her to stay, as they believe she was working for them while the robbery had taken place. Eventually the truth comes out and Grace is held accountable for the lies that she told the town of Dogville. Also starring John Hurt, Lauren Bacall, Chloe SEvigny, Paul Bettany, Stellan Skarsgard, James Caan, and Philip Baker Hall, Dogville won countless awards when it was released in 2003.moreless
