Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the prestigious 1941 adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel of the same name, this time directed by filmmaking legend Victor Fleming (The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Captain Courageous) and boasting performances by no less than acting legends Spencer Tracy ' in the title roles ' and Ingrid Bergman. Dr. Henry Jekyll is a brilliant scientist who seeks to split the dual nature of man right down the middle via a potion he invents in order to rid man of his baser instincts so that only the good persona is left over. His formula works a little too well however, when it brings to the fore his bad side ' personified by the bestial Mr. Hyde. Now free to run rampant on the world, unchecked of any remotely decent instinct, Hyde indulges in whatever whim takes his fancy ' whether that be murderous in nature, as Jekyll's friends and family soon discover'moreless
