Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the 1955 television adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel of the same name, for the popular Climax Mystery Theater television series, this time directed by Allan Reisner and adapted by no less than writing legend Gore Vidal, and boasting performances by acting legends Michael Rennie ' in the title roles ' and Cedric Hardwicke. Dr. Henry Jekyll is a brilliant scientist who seeks to split the dual nature of man right down the middle via a potion he invents in order to rid man of his baser instincts so that only the good persona is left over. His formula works a little too well however, when it brings to the fore his bad side ' personified by the bestial Mr. Hyde. Now free to run rampant on the world, unchecked of any remotely decent instinct, Hyde indulges in whatever whim takes his fancy ' whether that be murderous in nature, as Jekyll's friends and family soon discover'moreless
