Driving Lessons is a 2006 coming-of-age comedy from the United Kingdom. The film follows seventeen year old Ben (Rupert Grint) as he struggles to break free from the reigns of his overbearing mother Laura (Laura Linney). The freedom is promised in the form of a driver's license. However, when Ben is supposed to be getting lessons from his mom, she spends extra time with an odd parishioner at her husband's church, Mr. Fincham (Jim Norton). To make some money during this free time, Ben takes a job maintaining the garden for a retired actress, Evie Walton (Julie Walters). In their time spent together, Evie counterbalances the influence of Ben's domineering mother. She expands Ben's horizons, encouraging him to explore and be open to new experiences including romance. Their exciting adventures prove to be just what shy Ben needs. Filmed on location in Edinburgh and London, Driving Lessons is an entertaining and energetic mix of drama and comedy.
