Drop Squad is an American social satire written and directed by David C. Johnson. The film is partially based on previous work by David C. Johnson in a film titled The Session and on a novel titled The Deprogrammer, by David C. Taylor. The film focuses on character Bruford Jamison (Eriq La Salle) and his experiences with an organization known as the DROP squad. Jamison is an advertiser in charge of projects designed to appeal to minorities. He comes into contact with the DROP squad, which stands for "Deprogramming and Restoration of Pride", when his sister, Lenora Jamison (Nicole Powell), contacts them. The squad apprehends him and spends weeks attempting to deprogram him through a variety of physical and psychological methods. Members of the DROP squad include its leader, Rocky (Vondie Curtis-Hall), and the most violent member, Garvey (Ving Rhames). The film was released on October 28, 1994, and was distributed by Gramercy Pictures. Spike Lee was an executive producer of Drop Squad.moreless
