Duck is a 2005 drama that shows how an unsuspecting character can give one man a reason to live. The year is 2009 and Los Angeles has become desolate and the city has decided to close the last public park. Arthur Pratt (Philip Baker Hall), a retired history professor, has become as desolate as the city he lives in. He is ready to throw in the towel, as he contemplates suicide because he has no friends, no family, no money and now no place to live. He goes to visit the park where his late wife and son are buried before ending his life. While there, he finds a baby duckling, which has barely escaped death and looks to Arthur as a mother figure. Arthur becomes very fond of the duck and names him Joe. As the city closes the park and drains the pond, Arthur and Joe head out in search of water, a place to live and a way to survive. They stumble across many people on their journey, some of them are helpful and some of them are cruel. What Arthur learns is that no matter what happens, he always has Joe and he now has a purpose for his life.moreless
