Dune is a 1984 science fiction movie directed by David Lynch. It is based on the cult classic 1965 novel by Frank Herbert. In the distant future, Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV (Jos'' Ferrer) presides over the known universe. Two powerful groups, House Atreides and House Harkonnen, battle each other for supremacy by trying to control the production of spice, which makes interstellar travel possible by folding the fabric of time. The emperor is wary of the weapons being amassed by Duke Leto Atreides (J''rgen Prochnow), so he hatches a plan with Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Kenneth McMillan) to bring down House Atreides. He allows Duke Atreides and his son, Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), take over spice production on the planet Arrakis so that he can later send the Harkonnens there to ambush them. The plan goes awry when Paul escapes and befriends the Fremen, native desert dwellers of Arakis. Hailed as a messiah by the Fremen, Paul leads a revolt that will change the universe forever.moreless
