Peter Faiman
Released:
1991
Rating:
PG-13
Dutch (Ed O'Neill) falls for a wealthy divorced woman, Natalie Standish (JoBeth Williams), whose husband has managed to turn their young son, Doyle (Ethan Randall) against her. When Natalie calls Doyle at his private boarding school and invites him to her house for Thanksgiving, the boy rudely turns her down. Doyle's father, Reed (Christopher McDonald) has already informed Natalie that he cannot have Doyle for the holiday due to an unexpected business trip. Dutch sees this as a great opportunity to meet Doyle and get a little closer to Natalie, so he agrees to drive to Georgia to pick up the spoiled boy and bring him home to his mother. The trip is fraught with difficulties and at one point, Dutch makes Doyle walk to the next motel. Even though their car gets flattened by a semi, the two travel together and eventually make it to Natalie's where the holiday promises to be most memorable.
