Eastern Promises is a Russian mobster film with an all-star cast of Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, and director David Cronenberg. Set in modern day London, the story begins when Anna Khitrova (Naomi Watts), happens upon the diary of a young Russian immigrant that dies in childbirth. In an attempt to locate the young infants next of kin, Anna seeks out the names of some people that she finds in the diary, leading her straight into the world of the Russian mafia and at the feet of Nikolai Luzhin (Viggo Mortensen). Nikolai is the driver and body disposer for the head crime boss, and also an up-and-comer in the crime organization. As Anna gets closer to the mystery of the dead Russians family, she becomes dangerously entangled in the underground crime world. Hailed by top critics from all over the globe, and on many Top 10 of 2007 lists, Eastern Promises is a movie with many twists and turns, and above all, a first rate crime thriller that is not to be missed.moreless
