Director:

Released:
1996
Rating:
R
Eden is the moving story of Helen Kunen (Joanna Going). A married mother of two in the 1960s, Helen feels stifled not only by the demands of her family, but also by the multiple sclerosis from which she suffers. Helen's husband Bill (Dylan Walsh) is a schoolteacher at a boy's school in New England. Although Helen herself longs to teach, he forbids her, preferring that she concentrate on her duties in the home. When troubled student Dave (Sean Patrick Flanery) comes to live with them, Helen takes the opportunity to tutor the boy. Her encouraging nature captures his heart and he develops a crush on her. The boy's devotion becomes a source of support for Helen as she struggles against her illness. Helen learns to find an emotional escape in flights of fantasy, eventually leading to out-of-body experiences. A haunting story of love, hardship, and bizarre psychological experiences, Eden has the power to make audiences both laugh and cry.
