Emily Dickinson: A Certain Slant of Light is a historical drama that explores the life of the great poet. Emily Dickinson (Julie Harris) lived alone in her father's house in Amherst, Massachusetts most of her life. Ironically, poetry that explores the depths of the human soul and the breadth of the imagination were all produced in a secluded home on Main Street. Her life is ordinary and plain, while her poetry offers a certain slant of light that cast everyday experiences in a new perspective. Dickinson rarely left her town and hardly ventured further than her brother's house, right next door. The film shows the actual house in which the poet lived, the neighborhoods around it, and a white dress that she was known to wear. The exploration of her life creates a stark contrast of an uneventful life against the power and range of poetry and a gifted mind.
