Enemies of Laughter is 2000 romantic comedy written by Glen Merzer and directed by Joey Travolta. Paul Halpern (David Paymer) is a neurotic, failed state and sitcom writer with a less than stellar love life. Paul's dates don't just stand him up, he sends them fleeing. He is just a little bit too quirky for the typical Hollywood air-head. His best friend, Sam, develops a plan to turn Paul's life around. He thinks Paul life would be perfect for a comedic documentary exploring the ups and downs of modern dating. The pair hire a young and beautiful documentary film director named Clara (Rosalind Chao). Sam quickly develops an interest in Clara making it difficult to sincerely date other women. Paul's feelings continue to grow while date a number of woman for the sake of the production. Will he be able to contain his desires long enough to finish the film? Will the documentary about his romantics struggles lead to a revival of his carreer?moreless
