Movie Summary

Director:
Jean-Jacques Annaud
Released:
2001
Rating:
R

Set during the Second World War and featuring two snipers in a cat-and-mouse game. Vasily Zaitsev is an amazing marksman in the Red Army dead set on fending off the invading German army in the Battle of Stalingrad. Zaitsev's accomplishments are used as propaganda by commissar Danilov to rally the troops and raise the morale of all Soviets. As Zaitsev becomes a national hero, the Germans rethink their advances. When the attack sees more blood than expected, the Germans call in more troops, including Major Erwin Konig, who is renowned country-wide and the head of a German sniper school. As the Battle of Stalingrad heats up around them, Konig and Zaitsev make the fight personal. This film is a factual story that depicts the lives of some soldiers in one of the world's most influential battles in history.
