Ernest Goes to Camp is a 1987 comedy starring Jim Varney and directed by John R. Cherry III. The film follows Ernest P. Worrell (Jim Varney), a goofy handyman who want to become a counselor at Kamp Kikakee. When Ernest learns the peculiar sign language created by camp owner Chief St. Cloud (Iron Eyes Cody), his wish is granted. Ernest is given responsibility over a group of juvenile delinquents who previously hospitalized their former counselor. Ernest eventually wins their respect by translating Chief St. Cloud's instructions during an initiation ceremony. When Ernest mistakenly convinces Chief St. Cloud to sign over his property to a strip-mining company because he thinks the contract is a conservation petition, Ernest must organize the boys and make things right. In a showdown with the mining company's owner, Sherman Krader (John Vernon), Ernest pulls out all the stops in a frontal assault of the mining company's construction site. Fans of the goofy know-it-all character Ernest will enjoy this fast-paced comedy.moreless
