Ernest in the Army

Movie Summary

Director:
John Cherry
Released:
1998
Rating:
PG
Ernest in the Army is a 1998 comedy starring Jim Varney as the lovably dim-witted Ernest P. Worrell in his tenth and final feature film. Ernest's latest adventure finds him in more trouble than ever, as the goofy country boy becomes an unlikely hero as a soldier fighting overseas. The film begins with Ernest working a new dead-end job as a golf ball collector in small-town Georgia. He dreams about being a beloved hero, fighting for the American Way and bringing peace and liberty to people in need. Deep down, though, he knows he's not cut out for the soldier's life. A friend of his convinces gullible old Ernest that if he enlists in the Army he can get a job driving large, high-tech vehicles without ever seeing combat. So Ernest signs up, but quickly learns his time in the Army won't be so easy. Hayley Tyson and Jeff Pillars co-star in this hilarious story of one hillbilly blundering his way through Army life.moreless
