Ernest Saves Christmas is a 1988 holiday comedy that features Ernest Worrell (Jim Varney), a zany and bumbling but ultimately good-hearted goof. A jolly stranger (Douglas Seale) shows up at Ernest's cab, claiming that he has a very important mission. He is Santa Claus, and he needs to get to Joe Carruthers (Oliver Clark), the local host of a children's show, to tell Joe that he will be stepping up as the new Santa. Ernest is willing to go along with the scheme, whether or not Santa is really who he says he is. As they head to Joe's studio, Ernest and Santa stop to pick up a young runaway, Harmony ((Noelle Parker). In the spirit of Christmas, Ernest lets both Santa and Harmony ride in his cab for free. His plans backfire when he winds up fired from his job, but when Ernest discovers Santa's sack and sets out to return it, his Christmas plans take an unexpected turn.
