Escape from Fort Bravo is a 1953 Western directed by John Sturges and set during the American Civil War. The ruthless Union leader of Fort Bravo prison camp, Captain Roper (William Holden), must deal with threats from within, as his Confederate prisoners try to escape, while also fighting off attacks from hostile Mescalero Indians. When Carla Forester (Eleanor Parker) arrives at Fort Bravo to visit some of the prisoners, Captain Roper falls in love with the Southern beauty. Little does he know the real reason Carla is there - she wants to help free the prisoners, in particular Confederate Captain John Marsh (John Forsythe). While she distracts Captain Roper, a group of Confederate prisoners escape into the surrounding desert. Roper and his lieutenant, Beecher (Richard Anderson), are determined to recapture the escaped soldiers, and Roper's love for Carla only adds to his determination. However, the unfriendly Mescalero Indians make the pursuit more difficult, as they threaten Confederate and Union soldier alike.moreless
