Escape from New York is a 1981 film set in the year 1997. Due to out of control crime, the United States converts New York City into a maximum-security prison where the worst criminals are put away for life. En route to a conference via Air Force One, the U.S. president (Donald Pleasence) ejects in an escape pod because a terrorist took over the plane. Unfortunately, he lands right in the middle of the prison. To try to retrieve the president, the United States government sends former war hero and condemned criminal Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) into the city, granting Snake his freedom if he succeeds. To make things more interesting, the government injects Snake with a small bomb that will detonate after 24 hours if he fails. Can Snake accomplish his mission and save not only the president's life, but also his own? Directed by John Carpenter, Escape from New York packs plenty of action.
