Escape from Sobibor is a 1987 fact-based film about a daring uprising by Jewish prisoners at the Sobibor concentration camp. Cast members include Rutger Hauer, Alan Arkin, Joanna Pacula, Harmut Becker and Jack Shephard. The prisoners, led by Alexander Perchersky (Rutger Hauer), realize that it's only a matter of time before they meet the same horrible fate as the prisoners before them. They face long odds -- even more so due to an unsuccessful uprising at the Treblinka concentration camp. An elaborate scheme is orchestrated, which calls for the murder of many Ukraine guards and German officers. After fearing they would be no better than their Nazi captors, the prisoners decide a guilty conscience is far better than a brutal, undignified death. The film is a celebration of the human spirit and shows that even when faced with dire odds, and possible death, people can still muster the courage and will to fight.
