Esther: The Bible is a 1999 movie from the popular "The Bible" series of Biblical adaptations. When King Ahasuerus (Thomas Kretschmann) of the Persian Empire grows upset with his Queen, Vashti (Ornella Muti), he throws her out and stages a beauty competition to replace her. The young Jewish girl Esther (Louise Lombard) is selected as the winner, and becomes his new beloved queen after a full year of preparation. But, when the kingdom's Prime Minister Haman (J''rgen Prochnow) becomes displeased with Esther's Uncle Mordecai (F. Murray Abraham), he organizes a scheme to have all the Jews in the realm of Persia massacred, and wins the King's approval. Only Esther has a chance to save her people, but to do so she must approach the king uninvited - a crime that carries a sentence of death. Will she have the courage to trust her God to protect her? Directed by Raffaele Mertes.
