2004
Rating:
R

Eulogy is a 2004 black comedy about a father's funeral becoming a family feud. For the Collins family, the death of patriarch Edmund (Rip Torn) is the time to air three generations worth of grievances, hurts and hostilities. Lucy (Kelly Preston) comes out of the closet and announces her engagement to Judy (Famke Janssen). Her horrified sister Alice (Debra Winger) can't contain her obsessive outrage. Daniel (Hank Azaria) has found an acting career as the second-string in porn films. Older brother Skip (Ray Romano) can't control his relentlessly rude twin sons' constant ridiculing of the family. College student Kate (Zooey Deschanel) tries to take it all in. The widow, Charlotte (Piper Laurie), takes a look around at her children, and decides she wants to do herself in. Writer-director Michael Clancy takes a dark and demented view of family dysfunction, but focuses on the laughs and ultimately deep ties underneath the drama.
